Pecém Port and Industrial Complex (CIPP) registered a 56% increase in cabotage in the first half of 2019 compared to the same period of last year. Growth was driven by increased demand for different types of cargo, ranging from fruit to cleaning materials. These are goods that embark and disembark, taking advantage of the strategic location of the Port of Pecém. For this type of movement, the terminal of Ceará has two "Ship to Shore" (STS) cranes, with an average productivity of 65 movements per hour.
General cargo shipments through the Port of Pecém increased 15% when compared to the first six months of 2018, the main ones being steel plates, wind turbine blades, fruit juice, fresh fruits, salt, cereals and wheat flour. In the first half of the year, the Port of Pecém handled 8.7 million tons (2% growth) ( both shipments and landings). Solid bulk, with emphasis on iron ore and coal, which is the raw material for the iron and steel industry, maintains the most important cargo position, accounting for 54% of total accumulated cargo, followed by containerized cargo, with 23%- loose general cargo (20%), and bulk liquid (3%).
The expectation is to close the year with an increase of about 10% in total handling compared to 2018.
