According to data from the Brazilian Association of the Pet Products Industry (ABINPET), there are 18 million ornamental fish in Brazil (in comparison, there are 52.2 million dogs and 22.1 million cats). Brazil currently has 725 species of ornamental fish in the market. It has more than 4,000 cataloged in the local fauna, and is among the main countries with a large variety of species of ornamental fish and aquarofilia, next to China, Germany, Singapore and the USA.
