Ceará was the national leader in 2018 of carnauba wax exports, this being the eighth most significant sector of Ceará's exporting products. In 2018 Ceará exported US$ 55,1 million in carnauba wax, 1.6% less than the US$ 56 million exported in 2017. No imports were registered in the period, which shows some local self-sufficiency. The wax extracted from carnauba is processed and was exported to 38 countries in 2018. The US market is the main consumer of carnauba wax from Ceará, with US$ 18,3 million. The amount consumed by the United States grew 23% between 2018 and 2017, accounting for a third of the total. Europe is also a strong importer with Germany (US$ 7,9 million) and Holland (US$ 3,6 million) as major representatives. The Netherlands showed a growth of 33.6% in the biennium analyzed. The data are from the Ceará Comex, a study prepared by FIEC's International Business Center.
