After announcing the acquisition of an industrial plant in the city of Horizonte, Ceará, Klabin's packaging director, Douglas Dalmasi, said that the state has always been in the company's sights, as it is the third largest consumer of packaging in the country.
Heineken’s former factory, which closed at the end of 2017, will become Brazil’s largest producer of packaging. With the purchase, Klabin plans to expand its production of corrugated packaging, to supply the growing fruit market.
The factory is 35 km from Fortaleza and 90 km from Pecém Port, over 1 million square meters and has over 30,000 m² of built area.
The initial investment was R$ 48 million, according to the director, and allows the company to start the first phase of operations scheduled for the end of the year. Douglas said that for this initial part of the operation about 20 new jobs will be created.
Brazil is considered to be the third largest fruit producer in the world, second only to China and India. In 2018, the national production was 41 million tons, being for domestic consumption and for export.
SustainabilityThe packaging produced by the company is produced with planted forests and certified by the company, that is, from sustainable and renewable sources, as well as being recyclable.
